UTIs are a big issue for intermittent catheter users3

Antibiotic resistance from repeated use can be a health risk when treating recurrent UTIs.4

Although intermittent catheters have improved, there can still be issues with UTIs.1

Watch our video to learn more about Antibiotic resistance from Dr Matthew Wylie, Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Materials Science at Queen’s University Belfast.

Damage from repeated catheter use can weaken the urethral defense increasing the risk of UTIs5

Why does current technology increase the risk of UTIs?

Hydrophilic coated catheters can stick, and damage the delicate urethra. The coatings are slippery on the way in, but they can become sticky on removal as they dry.1

Irritation and damage to the soft urethral tissue can allow bacteria to colonize the space created6,7 causing discomfort and bleeding and leading to a higher chance of getting UTIs.1,4

Watch our FeelClean™ Technology Mode of Action animation to learn more about our next generation technology.

GentleCath™ with FeelClean™ Technology

is the first and only catheter where the slippery hydrophilic properties are integrated inside the catheter itself rather than having a sticky coating.

Without this coating, FeelClean™ Technology does not stick, so protects the delicate urethra,1,2 the body's first line of defense against UTIs.*8

Independently tested

GentleCath™ with FeelClean™ Technology is designed to improve outcomes and quality of life for intermittent catheter users.2

Queen's University Belfast

Scientists conducted a comparative study to understand the effect catheterisation has on the cells of the urethral lining.2

A range of hydrophilic catheters were tested alongside GentleCath™ with FeelClean™ Technology using a model designed to mimic the delicate urethra.2

Hydrated catheters were passed over a layer of real human cells, replicating insertion and withdrawal during catheterisation.2

              Insertion
Catheters were still fully hydrated after 0 min of contact with cells.
                Withdrawal
Hydration levels dropped after 2 mins of contact with cells.

Cell Culture Story

Less cell damage2

________________

GentleCath™ causes significantly less disruption to the cell layer vs the majority of hydrophilic coated catheters tested.2

Less cells stick2

________________

One of the hydrophilic coated that caused the most cell layer damage had 5x more cells stuck to it than any other catheter tested.2

Protection of cell health2

________________

GentleCath™ was the only catheter to not cause moderate or severe damage to cell health.2
