Hi, my name is Harrison Kefford and I'm 29 years old and live in Melbourne, Australia. I currently have an ileostomy, it's temporary for the foreseeable future but the long term plan I have with my surgeon is that my stoma will very likely be permanent at some point. I had surgery because I live with Crohn's disease and things treatment wise weren't working, so my doctors and I decided it was probably best that I try the surgery route, hence why I now have a stoma.
How did you feel before having stoma surgery?
I was scared because it's a big thing to go through but the period between being told about surgery and having it was only about two weeks so I really didn't have that much time to process what it was going to look like.
How do you feel now after stoma surgery?
I've never been healthier and happier. I can do so much more now!
Tell us about your hobbies. Any new ones since surgery?
My biggest hobby (which has also turned into work for me) is being able to educate and show people what life is like with a stoma via TikTok & Instagram.
What do you know now that you wish you knew before having surgery?
That things sound like they're going to be incredibly hard, but things will somehow work themselves out. I think it's important to just do and try things, especially new ones.
